After Guts left the Band of the Hawk, Griffith is accused of treason against the crown of Midland and condemned to imprisonment. It is then the Band of the Hawk's turn to be attacked by the kingdom's army. On the verge of being decimated, the band, with Casca at its head, is forced to live as fugitives.
Guts, returning after disturbing rumors reached his ears, repels a punitive expedition against them. Casca and he reveal themselves completely to each other, seeking necessary salvation.
